The challenges that international students with regard to unfair treatment extents to individuals institutions and course department whereas they have enrolled for different courses. For instance, Jack He notes that there are moments when communication between academic institutions and students delay, thus affecting how they plan their studies and other activities. According to He, “Sometimes emails from international students receive delayed response.”

Furthermore, some lecturers fail to consider the difficulties that international students face while learning in Australian universities, colleges and school because of elements such as language and cultural challenges. For example, Chris, a college student, “In sociology class, tutor gave us a little bit time to prepare answer to question, it is hard for us to finish reading in such short time! You know, as an international student, it seems impossible to finish a long reading in short time, what a terrible class! Tutor never consider us.” On his part, HengSeng notes that he was forced to a lab for a third time, unlike local students who only took the lab classes once. Thus, because of failing to consider such challenges, international students find classes challenging.

The number of students admitted to Australian universities, colleges and schools has grown from approximately 300,000 students per year between 2009 and 2010, to over 600,000 students in 2017. Despite this growth of international students, the Australian government has been adamant to review its education policies to promote fairness in how these students are treated. According to He, some of the challenges that these students faces because of unfair treatment can be addressed by establishing strong student governments within academic institutions to call for a review of these policies. “I think there is a need to establish student governments to enable international students access help.” He further notes that the academic institutions should also promote initiatives that champion for the cause of international students. He affirms, “We need public universities and colleges to agitate for the rights of international students in Australia.”
