However, in the late 1980s, Dr. Shen was pre-elected to vie for a political office under the Liberal Party. “She was the first Chinese to be elected in the Australia parliament and was one of the eminent Australians serving on the original foundation consul of Australia's constitutional Monarchy.” Since then, the Chinese community has gained significant influence in the Australia political scene.

The growing population of the Chinese people in Australia has forced this community to promote the Chinese culture and way of life in this country through channels such as talks and other events. In this case, there has been an increased engagement of this community in different activities as a way to help people from other backgrounds understand not only the Chinese community in Australia but also China as a nation.
Despite the challenges that such a community faces, the hosting of these events have helped promote an increased level of tolerance and acceptance towards the Chinese people. Furthermore, there is a growing understanding among the whites that Australia is a multicultural country, as a factor that has increased the level of collaboration among people from different races.
