In addition to this, as a follower of Lao Tze, I will be able to develop and nurture virtues such as patients and develop strategic skills to enable me not just to live a fulfilling life but also to endure hardships and successfully go through them. To begin with, as an individual, it will be difficult for the environment in which I live in to corrupt my morality since I will not be harbour selfish desires, which are often exploited, thus corrupting an individual’s morality. Similarly, as a follower, I would like to learn how to retreat from confrontations and conflicts, thus deterring aggression in society. Researchers and observe that Lao Tze emphasised that a person could retreat to advance by withdrawing from aggressive competition, thus “tactfully surviving a troubled time and eventually getting what he or she wanted” (You, Rud and Hu 68). Speaking from this point of view, through following his teachings, I will be able to master the skills of withdrawing from aggressive arguments and competitions, thus creating a chance for myself to achieve victory without any form of aggression. Note that by maintaining a quiet role in any form of aggression, I will be able to influence my opponents to do the right thing.

In conclusion, Lao Tze remains as one of the most influential ancient philosophers in the Chinese society, and is recognised for developing the philosophical systems of Taoism and authoring the text, Tao Te Ching. Speaking from this perspective, I would like to become a follower of his teachings in order to develop the quiet way of living that refrains from engaging in aggressive competition with other people in society. In this regard, I aim to develop a character that depicts the softness of the water and yet still wielding significant power in society. Apart from this, as a follower of Lao Tze, I intend to developed leadership and influential skills that that do not focus on a forceful way of leading and doing thing but rather concentrates on a quiet way of life, thus motivating people in society to seek to emulate my character and do the right thing in life.
