Similarly, strength that I think characterised my leadership abilities is the ability to make decisive decisions. In line with, apart from making quick decisions, I found that I always remain firm whenever I make a decision on a particular issue. According to Snowden and Boone (2007), leaders are often faced with situations that have multiple facets and as such, their ability to make progress as well as inspire others to actions and ensure success is dependent on their ability to make decisions. In other I think Snowden and Boone (2007) are inclined towards affirming the fact that good and effective leaders are decision-makers. With this in mind, I think as an individual, the ability to make decisions is a critical factor towards seeking and finding solution, which I think is an important role of a leader. My decisiveness is further supported by the fact that I am creative and innovative. In this regard, rather than depending on the old ways of doing things, as a person, I often focus on creating avenues whereas the best approach to solving problems can be adopted and implemented. In their analysis of the relationship between leadership, innovation and creativity, Hughes et al. (2018) argue that in the modern world, leaders need to go beyond making decision to ensure that such decisions offer a new way or approach to dealing with different issues at hand. Therefore, these scholars emphasise the importance of a creative and innovative mind-set in supporting successful leadership. Therefore, I think as a leader I make sound and valued decisions because of my appreciation of creativity and innovativeness when making decisions.

Apart from leadership strengths that influence how I perform as far as leadership is concerned, there are certain personal values that influence my involvement in leadership. To begin with, one of my values that I think is critical in shaping my involvement in leadership is the appreciation and respect I have towards myself as well as other people irrespective of the educational level, race or cultural background among other aspects. As an individual, have the belief that every person in this world matters, irrespective of his or her status in society. In reference to Michie and Gooty (2005), expressing positive emotions towards others such as appreciation and respective is likely to encourage the follower to express similar emotions towards the leader. With this in mind, I have learned that for people to accord me respect as a leader, I also need to respect them. Notably, the value of appreciation and respect to others has been critical in my involvement as a leader. Note that as a result of appreciating and respecting other people, I also find it easier to communicate with them as well as inspire them to take action towards a certain course. Furthermore, through respecting others, I often find it easier to work with people from diverse backgrounds. In addition to this, through respecting myself, I have realised that people perceive me as an authentic person and as such, they are usually able to listen to me without struggling in any way.

Similarly, another critical value that shapes my involvement in leadership is integrity. Notably, I think strong relationship based on a personal and corporate level, as well as in formal and informal settings, can only be founded on the foundation of integrity. According to Palanski and Yammarino (2007), integrity is associated with wholeness and/or completeness of a person’s character and as such, it encompasses aspects such as trustworthiness, honest, compassion and empathy, openness, and moral uprightness among other elements. Speaking from this point of view, I think my success as a leadership is based on my ability to nurture the value of integrity in my life. Importantly, the value of integrity has been instrumental in helping me gain trust and respect from people during my involvement in leadership. For example, during one of the group work assignments, my colleague voted for me to lead the group with the argument that they trust me when we set goals since I will be on the frontline in leading the group to achieve it. One of the members noted that the reason that motivated him to choose me as the group leader was because we had work together in a previous team and he knew I always followed up to do what I said I would do. Therefore, as a leader, I think possessing the value of integrity is not only important in enhancing the perceptions that people have towards you but it also serves as a motivation to others to do and behave in a manner that reflects what they claim to be.

There are a number of things that I would want to do to contribute in terms of leadership. To begin with, one of these things is encouraging my followers or rather team members to collaborate and support each other in every task that they intend to accomplish. Notably, Kukulska-Hulme (2004) observes that thought collaboration and supportiveness, teams are not only able to tap in on the abilities of members but this also lays a foundation for the development of each members. Speaking from this perspective, I think as a leader I can contribute to leadership through creating an environment where team members can work together and support each to accomplish tasks. In addition to this, I would like to contribute in terms of leadership by promoting inclusivity and diversity in teams. This involves encouraging team members to transform their perceptions towards each other and acknowledge the fact that each plays in the society plays an important role. In reference to Mitchell et al. (2015), the 21st century has witnessed a significant increase in diversity not only in terms of gender but also in terms of culture, age, values and race among others. Therefore, my motivation to promote inclusivity and diversity in teams is informed by the fact that as a leader, one is likely to deal with diverse team members and finding a way for each one of them to belong to the team is instrumental in nurturing success.
