Introduction 介绍
Since the end of the Second World War, businesses and organisations across the globe have faced numerous challenges that have either acted as a stepping stone to new operations height, or have acted as a hindrance to the continuity to the affected business in its respective industry. These transformations have been propagated by factors ranging from the rapidly changing technology and rising global competition to the emergence of new organisational structures, new products and crises among other factors. In his analysis of organisational transformation, In reference to Rouse (2005), rapid globalisation and the increasing pace of competition due to the rapidly evolving technology requires businesses and organisations to implement different forms of fundamental changes since this is the only way they can be able to maintain their competitive advantage in their respective industries. Speaking from this point of view, this paper explores the fundamental transformations that have occurred in Huawei, a Chinese telecommunication company.
Background
Huawei is one of the leading telecommunication and networking companies not only in China, its home market, but also across the globe. An analysis of this company’s position on the global market indicates that it is the third largest seller of smartphones across the globe, trailing only Samsung and Apple, which hold the first and second position respectively as far as global smartphone market is concerned (The Economic Times, 2018). In this, a recent report by The Economic Times (2018) reveals that this company has a 10.9 percent market share of the total global smartphone market, up from 10.6 percent in 2016 (Figure 1). In this regard, whereas most smartphone producers including Samsung and Apple were experiencing declining sales of smartphones, Huawei maintained a small but steady growth in its sale of smartphones over the last two years.
