1.0 Introduction 导言
The purpose of this portfolio is to reflect on my interpersonal effectiveness when working in a team. I will reflect on my behavior in a team by looking at how I respond to conflicts that arise in team. The portfolio will firstly look at the theory of conflict management in diverse teams, secondly evaluate one of the critical incidents that we experienced in our team, and then reflect and link it to organizational effectiveness particularly with respect to primary and secondary aspects of diversity.

In reference to Kearns and Calhoun (2010), interpersonal effectiveness refers to the level of perceived self-efficacy, social perception and assertiveness. Arguably, the ability of a person to effectively interact in teams and groups is highly influenced by his or her ability to balance these skills.

2.1 Critical Incident 人际效能
S – Situation 事件 | The incident occurred when working on the oral presentation group work assignment. As group members, we failed to agree on whether to complete the assign by either working on it in a collective way or assigning small tasks to individual members. Some members also suggested those who opposed subdividing the assignment into smaller tasks cannot accomplish anything in life without doing it in a group. This raised disagreements because those who opposed dividing the work into smaller tasks and assigning it to individual members were Chinese. 事件发生在口头陈述小组工作任务中。作为小组成员,我们未能就是否通过集体方式完成任务或将小任务分配给单个成员来完成任务达成一致。一些成员还建议,那些反对将任务细分为较小任务的人,如果不在小组中完成任务,就无法在生活中完成任何事情。这引起了分歧,因为反对将工作分成更小的任务并分配给单个成员的人是中国人。 |
T – Task 任务 | I was required to give direction on what approach was supposed to be adopted since I was leading the group on this particular day. 我被要求就应该采用的方法给出方向,因为我在这领导团队。 |
A – Action 行动 | I first calmed down the members and asked them to adopt a compromise position by adopting both modes of working by working on some tasks collectively and breaking down others into smaller tasks and assigning them to individuals. I also encouraged members to embrace racial diversity and appreciate each other’s differences. 我首先让成员们冷静下来,并要求他们采取折衷的立场,采取两种工作模式,一种是集体完成某些任务,另一种是将其他任务分解为较小的任务,然后分配给个人。我还鼓励成员们接受种族多样性,欣赏彼此的差异。 |
